Fort Worth 15 and Artspace111 Host Book Signing and Benefit
Fort Worth, Texas—Let’s say you’re an artist (or a special friend of an artist). You’re making art and making art and suddenly realize that you don’t have room to store any more of your art. It dawns on you that artists are not only supposed to make art, but also to sell art. At least that’s the theory. But you can come up with any number of excuses as to why you’re not promoting your art and now you have a house and studio overflowing with unsold art. If this sounds familiar, Alyson B. Stanfield’s new book, I’d Rather Be in the Studio! The Artist’s No-Excuse Guide to Self-Promotion, is for you.
Author Alyson B. Stanfield, an internationally recognized art-marketing consultant, will be in Fort Worth for a studio tour, book signing, and benefit. The event, which is open to the public and especially to all working artists and their friends, will be among the opening events at Artspace111 during Spring Gallery Night on Saturday, March 29, from 2 to 4 p.m., at 111 Hampton Street, Fort Worth. Ms. Stanfield’s tour and book signing is sponsored by Fort Worth 15 and Artspace111.
Whether you’re (or your special artist friend) a sculptor, painter, metalsmith, glass artist, fiber artist, or woodworker, I’d Rather Be in the Studio! teaches you how to take advantage of traditional self-promotion techniques, as well as how to expand into Internet marketing.
The founder of ArtBizCoach.com, Ms. Stanfield has helped thousands of artists develop their careers through her online classes, publications, workshops, and free weekly Art Marketing Action newsletter—all available at http://www.artbizcoach.com. She used the self-promotion tools she describes in the book to launch her art-marketing consulting business and Web site in 2002. Prior to that, she counseled artists informally throughout her ten years as an art museum curator and educator, including positions at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman. Ms. Stanfield’s undergraduate and graduate degrees are in art history although she started as a painting major. Graduate studies were conducted at University of Texas at Austin.
Additional business experience, presented in the networking and following up chapters in the book, are direct results of her political work in the U.S. Senate.
The book is $24.95 and includes links to documents that can be downloaded and reused for any art-marketing plan. To read more details and to order a copy of I’d Rather Be in the Studio! The Artist’s No-Excuse Guide to Self Promotion, visit http://www.idratherbeinthestudio.com.
Benefiting Emergency Artists’ Support League
Ten dollars from the sale of every book at the book signing event will benefit the Emergency Artists’ Support League (EASL) which provides financial assistance for North Texas visual artists and arts professionals in dire temporary distress because of an unforeseen medical emergency or other catastrophic event. Because it is sometimes difficult for applicants to admit that they are in financial distress and need immediate help, confidentiality is of paramount importance. EASL represents DFW as one of the many U.S. nonprofit groups and foundations providing rapid-response aid programs for artists in need.
